In the minute, it’s a brandname that’s dividing opinion.
As idolized since it is hated, you need to have seen a little bit of it everywhere, towards the great displeasure of their many critics, who feel that in France, Canada Goose is definitely the new Moncler in a negative sense.
But on the opposite side of your fence, there are numerous fans who, for love nor money, would not spend a winter without their Canada Goose clothing (and who I believe have only recently joined the club ).
Important: I lived in Montreal through the end of August 2012 to June 2013, so I wore my Canada Goose Outlet in different conditions (from nearly -20°C with wind, up to 8°C after i returned to France for 3 weeks), so I think I have a fairly extensive, clear view on the quality of the item.
So, as a lover of men’s fashion, beautiful materials and good fitting clothing: what do I think about a bulky parka?
Before I report back, I’d prefer to take the time to take into consideration Canada Goose’s brand image, that is rather ambiguous…
Hate it or adore it – 50 Cents feat. The Game
Ah…the price. Here is the flag the critics of Canada Goose proudly wave. For the majority of haters (and trust me you can find lots) you’re a sucker if you purchase a Canada Goose because:
Actually, everything will be better inside an ideal world if Canada Goose wasn’t so expensive, as the biggest haters are unanimous over the standard of the pieces.
Considering the quality of the product, you get a lot for your money. I’ve looked and honestly, you cannot find anything cheaper with similar quality (warning, my criteria did not just boil right down to ‘it must keep me warm’, I’ll return to that the bit at a later time).
People often talk with me about North Face, which surprises me every time. As if there’s a really expensive brand, it’s that. Honestly, to cover nearly 450 dollars to get a 100% synthetic parka (fur and down), made in China, now that’s Extremely expensive for what it is. Find out more about synthetic vs down insulation here
And then there’s a factor that’s never taken into consideration through the critics: the cut.
Because it ought to be noted that it’s difficult to get parkas cut as well as a few of the Canada Goose designs. I’ve rightly said some designs, since there are some which make you appear such as a walking refrigerator.
walking refrigeratorSnow Mantra, 1200 Canadian dollars. It’s the warmest design, sure to help keep you warm only -60°. It’s made use of by Alaskan miners and those who operate in the oil industry in far-flung icy parts of the world. There’s also a strap on the shoulder that can save you in desperate situations. You won’t look anything special with this particular on your back, but at least you’ll stay alive.
military inspirationBanff, by far the most modified design of the emblem, using a nice enough military inspiration. It’s only flaw? No pockets to maintain your hands warm: it’s in your interest to obtain some gloves!
Like a side note, when you’ve spent the past five years looking to get the best cut pieces of clothing to your figure, it’s a weighty argument. But I completely realize that it’s not really the truth for all. Inside my case, I simply can’t overlook it.
‘Yes, but you’re spending money on a brandname!’
I’ll tell the truth along, that’s things i thought to begin with, but it isn’t the way it is.
Really, certainly not. As an example, Quartz Nature is a less popular Quebec brand that has exactly the same prices as Canada Goose. Likewise, Kanuk, which happens to be 100% a Quebec brand (the workshop is definitely nearby to my house) is a lot more expensive than Canada Goose, with prices easily exceeding the 800 dollar mark!
KanukA Quartz Nature parka, 620 dollars, by using a quality that’s similar to Canada Goose, although with a totally different brand identity for Quebecers, for the reason that products are made in Quebec (french-speaking). And also at that price, nobody dares to claim that you’re only paying for a brand…
So why these prices? The fur that you see in the hoods is costly. Like a point of interest, Kanuk sells interchangeable furs to the hoods for between 200 and 300 dollars. And then there are no secrets: for any piece that’s not manufactured in China, with down and quality finish, you quickly reach the 500/600 dollar price, or maybe more. It’s the true importance of things.
Kanuk (The greatest Quebec coat brand, but which costs big money which is directed at a rather older audience) has this fur strip which alone costs…270 dollars!
I’ve gone off with a slight tangent, nevertheless it seemed necessary because, for me, Canada Goose is a that is certainly unfairly stigmatized.
Right, so what’s it genuinely like wearing a Canada Goose parka on a daily basis?
There’s no part of drawing out the suspense: during the cold months conditions of Montreal, it’s spectacular.
I am not surprised that the brand is provided to workers in many governmental bodies, because you obtain the feeling that its design is caused by a hellish experience in the cold.
To me, there are loads of brilliantly thought through details. That goes in the wire throughout the hood on the thick, robust zipper (a detail sometimes missing from North Face designs, hello for the uphill battle when you’ve got gloves on) on the two pairs of pockets for your personal hands lined completely with fleece, without forgetting the thick fleecey chin-protector.
And will it really help keep you warm?
Completely. It’s like you’ll never feel the cold again. Even that slight morning freshness, or when you’re waiting for the bus, or once you walk home right after a winter’s night out, you are never cold. I can’t remember being cold once this winter. The security against the wind is exceptional. One weekend, I had been at a carnival in Quebec, that is to express spending six hours outside having a temperature that’s approaching the -20°s, though with some wind (I have no idea just how much this g0ose exactly how the temperature feels, but say no less than an additional -10°) and it needs to be noted that you’re protected perfectly from the cold. Even at -20°. Even the duration of the zipper is safe, which means the wind just never gets near the inside of your parka.
What’s more, the hood is super well-built, and even when you don’t input it up, it protects your ears. Basically this hood that protects your face perfectly from high winds is absolutely great, really effective.
On the flip side, these aren’t the clothes to get a sustained sporting activity. If you’re skiing at -15° and it’s windy, you’re definitely going to sweat. Originally, Canada Goose Sale are intended for workers doing a lot of standing around (which explains why bouncers love the company). Extreme mountain climbers tend to go for brands like PHD, with equally impressive technical features. The Wiggy brand has some completely fire-proof parkas…
Nonetheless we’re still lightyears away from a Wooyoungmi coat getting an absolutely perfect cut. But having tested a couple of, Canada Goose is among one of those rare parka brands to worry about the cut of a selection of their designs. Therefore I was surprised to discover the shoulders of Banff, Chateau, Ontario and Citadel designs (one of the most ‘tight-fitting’ designs, all things relative) happen to be worked on and they are relatively high. If chosen well to your size, the parka doesn’t hang off your shoulders, it’s tidy and neat.
Finally, and that i was surprised, it usually is the truth using the most urban pieces that the size S is actually a ‘true S’. Similarly, Canada Goose even does a size XS which happens to be good to know.
